SOCEPP CONDEMNS STONING OF SOMALI WOMAN TO DEATH

SOCEPP had condemned the atrocities and human rights violations committed by the Meles Zenawi regime in Somali and the Ogaden region of Ethiopia and it is now duty bound to vigorously condemn the stoning to death of a Somali woman in Kismayo town. The 23 years old woman was accused of "adultery" while reports now indicate she was gang raped instead.

Kismayo is under the control of the Islamist Somali militia. The brutal killing of the young woman cannot be justified by any reference to any religious edict and even if this is done SOCEPP opposes such savagery as it has consistently condemned such brutal actions and condemnations as gross violations of the human rights of women. The hard line militia forces in Somalia are responsible for the violations of rights and for committing wanton murder against innocent civilians including journalists and civic society leaders. All this cannot pass without being condemned and SOCEPP joins all those who oppose and condemn the human rights violations of the insurgents and militia.
