STOP THE BLOODBATH IN ETHIOPIA
The repressive regime headed by Meles Zenawi is massacring the innocent people of Ethiopia with the thinly disguised approval of certain quarters that want to see an end to the struggle of the Ethiopian people for their basic human rights.
All this is a result of the illegal regime’s desperate attempt to cling to power by suppressing the PEACEFUL protest of the people. The people did not raise arms; they did not resort to violence. The regime provoked and orchestrated incidents to justify its repressive action against opposition leaders. In the last few days, the repressive forces of the regime have summarily executed innocent people, imposed a virtual reign of terror to crush the people’s protest against the gross fraud committed during the May 2005 elections (lost by the regime). Sadly enough, SOCEPP is forced to express its condemnation of the US State Department that issued a press statement practically condoning the repressive action of the regime while calling on the opposition forces not to "provoke" civil disobedience. That the US foreign ministry considers the exercise of their rights by the people as "provocation" while refraining from boldly condemning the murderous regime is once more proof of the reprehensible double standard that lies at the root of the US foreign policy. Emboldened by such positions the regime of Meles Zenawi is engaged in a virtual blood bath that the courageous European Union MP, Madam Ana Gomez, has condemned firmly once again. In Ethiopia, we see the forces of justice represented by a people seeking its basic rights confronting the forces of evil as represented by an illegal regime headed by Meles Zenawi. Blood is being spilt by a regime determined to continue with a dictatorship that has been denounced and rejected by a majority. Ethiopians are black African and not Europeans like in Ukraine or Georgia and thus Washington and some others show little concern for their plight while giving condemnable backing to the murderous regime. SOCEPP condemns with vigor the anti people and repressive Meles Zenawi regime. SOCEPP calls for an immediate halt to the bloodbath and repression. SOCEPP calls for the immediate release of the detained opposition leaders, members and supporters. SOCEPP calls on the USA and its allies to stop supporting the repressive regime and to end the shameful double standard that is indecent and against the human rights of the Ethiopian people. Release all political prisoners now. SOCVEPP stand with the Ethiopian people heroically struggling for the basic human rights and dignity. SOCEPP
