June 27/2003 "DISAPPEARED" EDU LEADERS STILL UNACCOUNTED FOR Sudanese security agents detained a number of leaders of the Ethiopian Democratic Union (an opposition organization in the period of the Derg/Mengistu) who were reportedly handed over to the Tigrean People's Liberation Front (TPLF), which is now in power in Ethiopia, and all have "disappeared" since relatives and kin have been trying to have any news of their whereabouts or condition without any success up to now. There have been unconfirmed reports that the TPLF has executed the above political prisoners.The EDU and the TPLF had fought several times and the TPLF is on record on wanting to "liquidate the EDU once and for all". SOCEPP calls on international human rights organizations to support its demand for the immediate and unconditional reporting by the TPLF/EPRDF on the whereabouts of the above who were handed to it by the Sudan.
