AUGUST 17/2005 UPDATE ON THE CONDITIONS OF THE 'SOLDIERS" FACING DEPORTATION IN THE SUDAN SOCEPP has learnt that thanks to the efforts of the refugees committee in place and protests from all quarters the Sudanese authorities have withdrawn their threat to deport the 12 Ethiopians who had sought asylum in the Sudan. At the same time, SOCEPP has also learnt that the all the 12 soldiers were not formerly soldiers of the EPRDF in Ethiopia. A few of them belonged to the Ethiopian Patriotic Front or Arebegnotch Ginbar and to the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) who are based in the Eritrean capital. It has also been revealed that Mamo Enyew is still being held in Kassala and he may face harsh treatment and possible deportations he has been separated from the others for a reason. Hence, SOCEPP calls on all concerned to remain vigilant and to call on the government of the Sudan to respect the rights of all the refugees. INJUSTICE ANYWHERE IS INJUSTICE EVERYWHERESOCEPP |
