JANUARY 11/2007 DENOUNCE
THE BRITISH AUTHORITIES FOR DEPORTING SOLOMON ABERA Despite appeals by SOCEPP (December
22) and many other human rights organizations, the British government has
deported asylum seeker Solomon Abera back to Ethiopia. He was suffering
from cancer and being treated for it. It
is a well known fact that the present British government works hand in
glove with the repressive regime of Meles Zenawi, considered an ally in
the anti terro war and thereby given carte blanche to commit atrocities
inside Ethiopia. Britiain trains the regime’s spies, police, security
forces and also gives these elements supplies. The decision to consider
Ethiopia a safe country has no relation to the existing miserable state of
affairs in the country but owes its justification to real politik
considerations. The gross violation of human rights by the Meles regime is
a fac tthat cannot be hidden and that continues to be exposed and
denounced all over the world. Moreover, credible reports have revealed
time and again that deportees ranging from Azanaw Demile in 1991 to four
of the recent deportees from the Sudan have been ”disappeared’ by the
regime. The
deportation of Solomon Abera is an injustice on the part of the British
authorities and SOCEPP condemns it while at the same time calling on the
British government to immediately cancel all other such deportation plans. SOCEPP |
