OPEN LETTER TO THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT RELEASE SOLOMON ABERRA AND ALL
DETAINED ETHIOPIAN REFUGEES ETHIOPIAN
ASYLUM SEEKER SOLOMON ABERRA is detained under harsh conditions in Britain
and facing deportation to Ethiopia where he would surely face torture and
possible ”disappearance”. Solomon is nunder medical treatment for
cancer. His asylum request has been rejected and he is being detained,
along with other Ethiopians, at the Immigrant Deportation Center,Hesler, 2
Dolphine Way,Gosport,Hampshire PO12 2AW. Forced to sleep on cold floors,
Solomon Aberra is depressed and in need of medical care and assurance/security. It
is sad to note that the concerned British authorities have ignored all
notions of decency and human rights in their callous treatment of
Ethiopian asylum seekers. Whatever may be their political consideration of
the repressive regime in Addis Ababa, the hard facts show that Meles
Zenawi presides over a cruel and murderous regime that has committed
massacres, repressed dissent violently, disappeared many including
deported refugees, banned the free press and jailed dozens of journalists.
The cruel stand against asylum seekers buttressed by a real politik that
leaves much to be desired is a travesty of justice and casts a bad light
on the claim by Britiaj to stand for democracy and human rights. Solomon
Aberra is not a candidate for deportation>He deserves medical care and
refuge.If deported, he risks sure death both from absence of medical care
and deliberate government reprisal. Many deportees from Beshir’s Sudan
had been detained in the Ma’kelawi/Third Police Station/, subjected to
vindictive torture and then ”disappeared”,a fate that would surely
befall Solomon and others if he ever gets deported. Stop
